Peer-reviewed publications represent the research contributions of authors and the institutions with which they are affiliated, while supporting the advancement of scientific understanding.

JOT therefore establishes ethical principles and professional responsibilities for all stakeholders involved in the publication process. These principles promote transparency, fairness, accountability, confidentiality, and integrity throughout manuscript submission, evaluation, and publication.

Core Principle Ethical Commitment

Fairness Ensuring objective and impartial editorial and peer review decisions based on scholarly merit.
Confidentiality Protecting confidential manuscript information and unpublished research materials.
Accountability Ensuring that all participants fulfil their responsibilities and respond appropriately to ethical concerns.
02

Duties of Authors

Responsibilities for research accuracy, originality, and authorship

Authors submitting manuscripts to JOT are responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their research. They must ensure that their manuscripts comply with accepted scholarly standards and the journal's publication policies.

01

Reporting Standards

Authors of original research must present an accurate account of the work performed and an objective discussion of its significance. Research data must be represented accurately, and the manuscript should contain sufficient methodological details and references to allow other researchers to understand and, where appropriate, replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behaviour and are unacceptable.

02

Data Access and Retention

Authors may be requested to provide the raw data associated with their manuscript for editorial review. Where practicable and consistent with applicable legal, ethical, and confidentiality requirements, authors should be prepared to make supporting data publicly accessible. Authors should retain research data for a reasonable period after publication.

03

Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure that their submitted work is original. Any use of the ideas, words, findings, data, or materials of others must be appropriately acknowledged, cited, or quoted. Plagiarism in any form is unacceptable.

04

Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication

Authors should not publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously constitutes unethical publishing behaviour and is unacceptable.

05

Acknowledgement of Sources

Authors must properly acknowledge the work of others. Publications that have significantly influenced the development, methodology, or interpretation of the reported research must be appropriately cited.

06

Authorship of the Paper

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported research. Individuals who have made substantial contributions should be appropriately acknowledged or listed as contributors.

The corresponding author must ensure that all appropriate co-authors, and no inappropriate co-authors, are included. All co-authors must have reviewed and approved the final manuscript and agreed to its submission for publication.

07

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial or other substantive conflicts of interest that could reasonably be perceived to influence the research results or their interpretation. All sources of financial support for the research must also be disclosed.

08

Fundamental Errors in Published Works

If authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, they must promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate in correcting the record or retracting the article, where necessary.

03

Duties of Editors

Editorial independence, confidentiality, and fair decision-making

Editors are responsible for managing the editorial process fairly, objectively, and transparently. Editorial decisions must be based on the scholarly quality, originality, relevance, and intellectual contribution of submitted manuscripts.

01

Fair Play and Editorial Independence

Editors must evaluate manuscripts exclusively on their academic and intellectual merit, without discrimination based on the author's race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, citizenship, religious belief, political philosophy, or institutional affiliation. Editorial decisions must remain independent of external governmental or institutional influence.

The Editor-in-Chief has overall responsibility and authority for the journal's editorial content and publication schedule, in accordance with the journal's policies.

02

Confidentiality

Editors and editorial staff must not disclose information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other authorized editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate.

03

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Editors and editorial board members must not use unpublished information disclosed in submitted manuscripts for their own research without the authors' explicit written consent. Editors must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest arising from competitive, collaborative, or other professional relationships with the authors, organizations, or institutions involved.

04

Publication Decisions

Editors are responsible for deciding which submitted manuscripts should be published. Their decisions must be guided by the journal's editorial policies, peer review assessments, scholarly standards, and applicable legal requirements concerning libel, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. Editors may consult other editors or reviewers when making publication decisions.

05

Involvement and Cooperation in Investigations

Editors must respond appropriately to ethical complaints concerning submitted or published manuscripts. This may involve communicating with the authors, considering the evidence, and contacting relevant institutions or research bodies where necessary. If an allegation is substantiated, the journal may issue a correction, retraction, expression of concern, or another appropriate editorial notice.

04

Duties of Reviewers

Objectivity, confidentiality, and professional peer review

Peer reviewers play an essential role in supporting editorial decisions and improving the quality of scholarly manuscripts. Reviewers are expected to conduct their assessments objectively, professionally, and within the agreed review period.

01

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer review assists editors in making informed publication decisions. Constructive feedback and recommendations provided through editorial communication can also help authors improve the quality, clarity, and scholarly contribution of their manuscripts.

02

Promptness

Reviewers who feel unqualified to evaluate a manuscript or are unable to complete the review within the required timeframe should promptly notify the editor and withdraw from the review process.

03

Confidentiality

Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. Reviewers must not share, disclose, reproduce, or discuss manuscript content with unauthorized individuals unless explicitly authorized by the editor.

04

Standards of Objectivity

Reviews must be conducted objectively and supported by clear, constructive, and evidence-based arguments. Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate. Reviewers should provide professional assessments that focus on the manuscript's scholarly quality and research contribution.

05

Acknowledgement of Sources

Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement, observation, derivation, or argument previously reported should be supported by appropriate references. Reviewers should also inform the editor of any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and other published work of which they are aware.

06

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must remain confidential and must not be used for personal advantage. Reviewers should decline assignments involving conflicts of interest arising from competitive, collaborative, or other professional relationships with the authors, companies, or institutions associated with the manuscript.

05

Duties of the Publisher

Ethical oversight and preservation of the scholarly record

The publisher supports the journal's editorial team in maintaining ethical standards and ensuring the integrity of the scholarly publishing process. The publisher is expected to work collaboratively with the editors while respecting editorial independence.

01

Commitment to Ethical Oversight

The publisher is committed to supporting the implementation of good practices in scholarly publishing. This includes maintaining appropriate procedures and cooperation with the editorial team to address publication ethics concerns.

02

Safeguarding the Academic Record

The publisher works with the journal's editors to preserve the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record. Where necessary, appropriate actions may include publishing corrections, retractions, expressions of concern, or other notices to address issues affecting published research.

The publisher must also ensure that advertising, reprints, and other commercial activities do not influence editorial decisions or compromise the independence of scholarly evaluation.

03

Editorial Independence

The publisher respects the editorial independence of the JOT editorial team. Publication decisions must remain under the authority of the journal's editors and be based on academic merit, research quality, and established editorial policies.
